Kai is repeatedly asked about his molestation during the junket
Although the reporters have been discouraged from asking about the breaking news regarding Kai, they still ask. Kai speaks with Ellen, a publicist for the movie, who reassures Kai that she worked hard to protect this privacy. They speculate as to who might have shared that detail, and Kai decides that it was not Juniper.
Kai and Juniper continue to grow closer as they spend time together at the junket and outside work, watching movies and going to parties together.
Kai finds out that the man who jumped into the car was hired
Earlier in the book, Kai and Juniper were at an event together. As they were leaving, an older man tried to get into the car with Juniper, and Kai heroically saved Juniper by kicking the stranger out of their car. The publicity from that helped Kai and Juniper gain fame and lead to the movie's success.
During an interview with The New Yorker, Kai finds out that the man was likely hired by someone. The reporter tells Kai that the man who jumped into the car knows absolutely nothing about Juniper and would have had no reason to pursue her like that unless he was hired to do so.
The reporter also asks Kai if he is in love with Juniper, and he responds saying, "sometimes."
When the interview is over, Kai asks Ellen if she arranged for that man to jump into the car. She says no, but then admits that while she didn't arrange it, she did find out that it was arranged by the studio. Todd, their producer, arranged for it to happen. Kai then wonders if Todd shared about his high school teacher molesting him.
Kai shares with Juniper that the man was a plant; Juniper seems unfazed even though at the time she was obviously emotionally affected. This scene explores just how much Juniper is willing to give of herself physically and emotionally to be famous, whereas Kai is deeply affected by the audacity of this system.
Twitter thread takes off about Kai misleading the public
Kai and Juniper both face intense online backlash. Kai is accused of misrepresenting what happened to him in high school. A former classmate of Kai's posts on Twitter, stating that he was actually the one who turned in the abuser, not Kai. Instead, in the opinion of his classmate, Kai was forced to share what happened and would've let the abuse continue if someone else hadn't been brave enough to say something. This classmate accuses Kai of stolen valor.
Kai and Juniper have sex
Kai and Juniper have sex. Juniper loses track of time, and Kai gets a phone call from Ellen asking if he knows where Juniper is, because she is missing her hair and makeup for a photoshoot.
They all fly to Paris to do more press, and the movie is screened. They all then fly back to New York for the movie to be released in the United States. Kai and Juniper continue to develop their relationship together as they see each other in these new environments and larger than life moments.
Kai finds out Matthew leaked his molestation; Kai flies to Jamaica
At the New York premiere, Matthew makes an offhand comment to Kai about how amazing it is that Kai was awarded "Most Likely to Make it in Hollywood" as a high schooler and now here he is at his movie premiere. Kai asks how Matthew knows this, and Matthew says that he did some digging before they started the movie together. From the way he says this comment, Kai realizes it was Matthew who leaked his molestation. Kai tells Matthew, who tells Kai that it was worth it for the sake of the film and Kai's career.
Matthew not only does not apologize for leaking that private information, but actually tells Kai that in ten years he will be thanking Matthew. Kai continues to attend the premiere. Kai sits down next to Juniper to tell her about Matthew. Juniper is surprised but also says that they have to keep working Matthew, that there will be more press and push for awards. Kai is upset that Juniper is not more concerned for him or sharing in his outrage. Kai finishes the film and answers questions as part of a panel afterwards.
Once he has an opportunity to leave, Kai leaves his things behind, grabs his passport at the hotel, and then throws his cellphone in a trash can and flies to Jamaica.
Juniper flies to Jamaica to bring back Kai
Initially, Juniper and the rest of the production are unsure where Kai is and worried for him. Todd lets Juniper know that he was able to track Kai down to Jamaica. Todd pressures Juniper to also go to Jamaica and retrieve Kai. Part of this pressure is that Todd threatens Juniper with losing out on her lead role if Kai does not return. Todd insists that without Kai as her counterpart, they will recast both of them in the film, Gods of Andromeda.
Reluctantly and also indignantly, Juniper agrees to go to Jamaica to find Kai. When she arrives, she does find Kai. They fight - Juniper is upset that Kai would disappear, and Kai is upset that Juniper has not been more supportive.
Juniper and Kai make amends and commit to their new film
Juniper calls Matthew to insist that he apologize. Matthew does call Kai to apologize, but it is, unsurprisingly, not a fulfilling apology. Afterwards, Juniper calls her publicist to tell her that she will not be working with Matthew for an awards push, nor will she work with him on any future projects. After her publicist pushes back and defends Matthew, Juniper fires her.
Juniper and Kai say that they love each other. They have fully reconnected now, as Juniper has shown that she is more loyal to Kai than she is to her career. They both put their foot down with Todd and decide that they will be doing a movie together, but only if Todd meets their terms.
They book ends with Kai and Juniper filming Gods of Andromeda together.
